Hieroglyphic Thinking
with Normandi Ellis

Words are magic. They operate on many levels through both sound and symbol. Egyptian priests understood that language and thought could create realities if the exact words are uttered at the right time, properly intoned, and filled with intention. They called their magical language of hieroglyphic symbols medju neter, which is literally translated as “the Word of God.” These symbols were said to have been created by Isis and Thoth, and were presided over by the goddess Seshet, keeper of the Akashic records.
The mystical linguistic link between words and intention is explored in Normandi’s book, Hieroglyphic Words of Power. “More than decorative sounds, hieroglyphs were symbols that unlock the key to dreams and altered states of consciousness. In this salon we will use patterns, symbols and vibrations that the ancients did, studying the magic of ‘heka,’ their words of power for sacred texts, prayers, and oracles.”
Normandi Ellis’s internationally celebrated books on Egyptian myth, ritual and magic include Imagining the World into Existence, Invoking the Scribes, Feasts of Light, Hieroglyphic Words of Power, and Dreams of Isis. Her translation from hieroglyphs, Awakening Osiris: The Egyptian Book of the Dead, is considered a modern spiritual classic. She has received fellowships from Kentucky Foundation for Women, YMCA Writers’ Voice, and Kentucky Arts Council, among others. She facilitates an Egyptian mystery school, teaches online, and leads trips to Egypt.
